What is BBG + My Experience

Hi friends!

Many of you have been asking what BBG is and I’m here to answer some questions for you all!
BBG stands for Bikini Body Guide and it is an amazing 12 week workout program created by Kayla Itsines (@kayla_itsines)! It has 189 pages filled with information to change your life and is designed to target problem areas, teach you effective cardio methods, and get a workout in under 30 minutes! Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays you do a 28 minute resistance training session that is broken up into four 7 minute circuits. Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays you do LISS (low intensity steady state, which is some form of cardio) for 35-45 minutes and in the beginning it’s optional, but you can also do HIIT (high intensity interval training), which I personally do on a treadmill doing sprints (30 seconds on, 30 seconds off, for 15 minutes a couple times a week), but there are other ways do it as well.
You also have the option of purchasing her HELP (Healthy Eating & Lifestyle Plan) guide, which is a 90 page clean eating plan. The HELP guide comes with a 14 day eating plan, it teaches you what foods are good for fat burning, how to speed up your metabolism, and it teaches you what to eat. Now that you know WHAT it is I would like to share a little bit about my experience with it.
First, I am a mom and have a 9 month old daughter. I started her program when I was about 20 weeks pregnant and continued to do it modified until I was 28 weeks pregnant, but it then got to hard for me to do so I stopped doing that and started to only do cardio. At that time I wasn’t doing her program in hopes of seeing any results, oblviously, but was doing it to keep myself active while pregnant.
After I had my daughter I had a plan to start her program when I was 6 weeks postpartum and got the okay from my doctor to workout. So, at 6 weeks postpartum I started and man was I in for a shock. You don’t realize how much pregnancy changes your body until you try to workout again after you’ve had a baby! It was roughhh. I struggled. I was weak, I didn’t have the motivation, I didn’t have the healthiest eating habits, I was doing it alone, and the bottom line is I got discouraged and after about 3 weeks I stopped. On top of that I was having milk supply issues and was really stressed about that, so overall it was not a good time for me to start BBG.
I figured out my milk supply and decided to start BBG over, but again I got to 3 weeks and stopped. Apparently my body wasn’t handling the extra calories being burned from breastfeeding and exercising because again I was having issues with my supply, which is why I couldn’t continue BBG for a bit. I was determined to do this program because I had seen so many amazing transformations and I wanted that. So I tried BBG another time and quit AGAIN after 3 weeks. I don’t know what it was about that 3 week mark, but I just couldn’t get passed it.
So after months of off and on BBG I came to a realization that changed everything for me! I realized that BBG is hard because it works! I was seeing all of these transformations and I just kept thinking that these girls had it easier than me. That there was no way it was this hard for them too, but I realized how wrong I was. Everyone struggles. Everyone has their days where they feel unmotivated and where they may eat too much. And that’s okay because that is normal and that just means that you’re human!
So, after I accepted that it was going to be a hard 12 weeks physically and mentally, my head was finally in the right place. I started to pay more attention to what I was eating and really care more about it as well. I stopped eating animal products and started eating more fruits and veggies. I made it to about 8 weeks doing the program alone and then found a friend that also wanted to do it, which has helped immensely with accountability and motivation! I finally had a routine that I enjoyed and that was showing me results and after all the struggle and hard work, there is no better feeling than seeing that what you’re doing is paying off!
I finished the 12 weeks on November 14th and was AMAZED at how much my body had changed and how much stronger I was! I was so excited about it that I started the program over and have now completed it a second time. After my second round of BBG 1.0 we moved to Pleasant Grove, Utah, which was really hard for me. When I thought about moving I was anxious and excited because of all of the possibilities that were to come, but after moving I soon realized that those possibilities also came along with a lot of stress and struggle.
After planning to start BBG 2.0 the Monday after I finished 1.0 the second time, we were still in the middle of painting our house, moving in, and getting new carpet. All of which made it extremely hard for me to focus. So, because of that I ended up taking that week off, which was definitely hard on me mentally. I thought that one week would really push me back with my progress, and to some extent it did, but I am so committed to this lifestyle and no matter what I am going to continue with it and give it my all because I am a happier and healthier person now.
I am now at the end of week 14 of BBG 2.0 and things are going great! My life is a little less stressful and I am finally getting back into my regular routine and I am ready to focus and push myself HARD!
I wanted to share my story because I want everyone to know that this process isn’t easy, but it is possible and if you do it right it will change your life! I promise. You just have to remember that it is OKAY to struggle and it is OKAY if sometimes you eat too much or you don’t give 100% in your workout. Try better next time, because thankfully there is always a next time!

Love you all!
